We are about three weeks out from starting potty training with Alayna. The results of our potty training weekend: John Paul is now fully potty trained since we stopped nagging him to use the potty, and Alayna brought on competition. He successfully is able to clean up after himself when he does occasionally have an accident. Alayna, on the other hand, still has at least one accident a day. But, we are too far along to go back. She understands the concept, she can hold it for a short time, and she goes on her own. The funny thing is that we can't bug her to go or "help" without being asked or she refuses to go. The progress is slow, but I am hoping that by her 2nd birthday in a few weeks, she will be pretty much trustworthy. I strongly recommend against pull-ups and even cotton training pants as they increase the number of accidents. Light weight cotton panties and a little potty that little ones can feel secure on by themselves have given us the greatest success with Alayna. I never thought potty training would be such a big deal, and our goal will be to not make such a big deal out of it in the future.
