Emery's New Heart

19 months ago, my cousin Keely and her husband Phillip, welcomed their second child Emery into the world knowing full well she had a congenital heart defect called HLHS. Basically, half of her heart is underdeveloped and has not been able to keep up with her growth despite two surgeries. It was finally decided this past Wednesday to put Emery on a donor list for a new heart, which has its own host of problems. They were given a pretty small chance of finding a match, but praise God, and thanks to many prayers, they were called that night at 3:30 am and told they had a heart for their sweet Emery. Did I mention that Emery is a fighter, just like her mom, and most of the women in our family. She's now made it through the critical first day with her new heart, but her battle is not over. Her blood has to be cleansed over the next few days to get rid of antibodies so she won't reject her new heart. Emery and Keely have been very heavy on my heart for the past week or so, especially because I cannot imagine what Keely and Phillip are going through right now. So, I am asking all who read this to please pray for Emery, her parents, her brother Colin, her grandparents, and all those close to her. Emery is a miracle baby and I know God has plans for her life. In the picture above, her big brother Colin is holding her right after she turned 1.
